10 Video Games That Never Came Out
5. Fable Legends
Consoles: PC, Xbox One
Why? Peter Molyneux. I kid, I kid. But seriously, this project felt doomed from the start. Fable was already a fledgling franchise and Lionhead Studios thought fans wanted an Evolve – esque hero game? Eurogamer reports they sunk a 75 million budget into this game only to have Microsoft ultimately scrap the game and close the studio.
4. LMNO
Consoles: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Why? LMNO is weird because it had involvement from mega – director/producer Steven Spielberg, but still ended up in the trash. Being Spielberg’s second foray into game development, LMNO was described as “a mix of first-person parkour movement with adventure and role-playing elements and escape-focused gameplay, all involving the player’s relationship with an alien-looking character named Eve” (Source). Ultimately, EA disliked the direction LMNO was heading and sent both Spielberg and LMNO packing.
3. Agent
Console: Playstation 3
Why? When Rockstar isn’t fighting with modders, or making GTA:O more grindy by inflating prices, they actually develop video games. One game that has been in development by Rockstar for what feels like a lifetime is Agent. Announced back in 2009, Agent has never formally been cancelled by Rockstar, but has simply faded into the background. I for one look forward to the day Agent is released with its own currency called Agent Bucks!
2. Star Wars: Battlefront III
Console: N/A
Why? Before EA got their money loving hands on the Star Wars franchise, there existed a couple of Star Wars Battlefront games that weren’t simply copy pasted into Battlefield’s game engine. Both Battlefront 1 + 2 were rather beloved games as they allowed players to play out their Star Wars fantasies. With the success of both, a Battlefront 3 was planned, but never reached audiences. As a result, we got a lackluster, fps from EA instead!
Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors
Consoles: Sega CD, PC, 3DO
Why? Penn and Teller are a famous magician duo who reached their zenith in the 1990s. The duo was so popular they decided fans would love a video game about their crazy lives. What was created was Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors, a collection of mini games. Most of the minigames were pretty bad, but one game in particular has become relatively notorious in gaming circles. The Desert Bus minigame has the player drive a bus for a full 8 hours from Tucson, Arizona, to Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately, Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors was completed at the worst possible time, as the Sega CD was on its last legs. Consequently, Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors was cancelled.
