5 Years a Game: Starbound is Coming July 22nd
Chucklefish developers of Starbound, have finally taken the indie darling gold. Starbound to those who don’t know, follows the Terraria vein. The game is a side – scrolling, action, adventure, survival game, which allows the player to craft and build various structures. Unlike Terraria, Starbound added a new mechanic of star travel through a huge galaxy.
With that aside, the game found life on Kickstarter where it was hugely successful (I backed it). Eventually Starbound made it’s way to Steam’s Early Access in 2014. Now, to the surprise of many (myself included) the studio has announced on a recent blog post, that the game is coming July 22nd.
Official Chucklefish Statement
After ~5 years, the game we set out to make finally exists, and to say that it all feels a bit surreal would be a massive understatement!
While Starbound will be finished in two weeks, this isn’t the end. We will continue to update and support Starbound for as long as we can. We’ve got loads of cool ideas we couldn’t fit into 1.0 but hope to put into future updates.
Thanks again for all your support over the years! You’ve stuck with us, and it means so much.
While the game may be finished, Chucklefish has promised to support Starbound for as long as possible. This could possibly mean large updates, bringing new quests and items in the future (conjecture on my part).
5 years is quite the journey. It will be interesting to see how the final product shapes out. My experience with the game was largely pre-quest implementation, but still was surprisingly deep.
To close out the announcement, Hold to Reset wishes to congratulate Chucklefish on completing their game. On to bigger and brighter projects!
Have you played the game? Like it? Love it? Excited for the full launch? Let me know in the Pit below.
