The Tobi-Kadachi is a large, flying squirrel like lizard you will face during the main storyline of Monster Hunter: World. This creature can be found in Ancient Forest where it like to climb trees. Storyline Quest: Flying Sparks: Tobi-Kadachi

Hunting Quest Text: “Oh, My! That Tobi-Kadachi sure is getting in the way of progress! You hunters will never get a hold of these specialized tools I’m making if I become its Dinner!”

Characteristics: A fanged wyvern tha flies among the trees of the Ancient Forest. Its penchant to brush against the ground and the trees as it moves around builds up static electricity within its fur.

Useful Information: Use the target camera to avoid getting ambushed from behind as it moves from tree to tree. The key to defeating this monster is to immobilize it and prevent it from reaching a charged state.

Tobi-Kadachi Fight Guide

Main Fight Mechanics: Roar + Charge + Thunderblight (Status Effect)

Charge: The Charge mechanic on Tobi-Kadachi is basically how it readies its Thunder elemental damage. Tobi-Kadachi will jump to trees, which will cause static to generate. At this point Tobi-Kadachi’s fur on its back will stand up, giving it a slightly white, and staticy appearance. Once charged, the monster will then starting dealing Thunder elemental damage.

Thunderblight: Tobi-Kadachi can cause Thunderblight status effect to the hunter. In this state, players are more likely to become stunned. When afflicted, you will see a lightning bolt above the hunter’s health bar. To reverse Thunderblight, consume a Nullberry, roll seven times, or get hit by an attack.

Attacks

Tobi-Kadachi is very mobile and fast moving, which makes its attacks incredibly hard to dodge. With that being said, the creature only possess a small pool of attacks, so if you can learn its attacks, you’ll be okay. Let’s take a look at the monster’s attacks below.

*I attempted to grab all the attacks I saw. Let me know if I missed some in The Pit.

• Quick Lunge: Can quick lunge towards you, covering quite a bit of ground quickly.
• Jump: Can jump towards you, dealing damage upon landing.
• Flying Somersault Slam:  When on the tree, Tobi-Kadachi likes to launch off and fly towards the hunter. It will then somersault slam to the ground.
• Slash: Uses front claws to slash at you.
• Flying Static Slam: When charged, Tobi-Kadachi like to jump from tree to tree until eventually launching itself in the air towards the hunter before slamming down.

Note: When charged, Tobi-Kadachi deals Thunder element damage with its attacks, while also being able to Thunderblight you.

Fighting Tips:

Tobi-Kadachi is a tough fight as it is incredibly mobile and hard to keep track of. Here are a few tips to help with the fight:

• Eat up – Head into the fight having eaten a meal from the Canteen (do this for every fight to make life easier).
• Free Camera – I find relying on the Free Camera rather than the lock-on camera to make this fight easier. While locked on, I find the camera gets pretty janky while Tobi is jumping around.
• Bring Nullberry: Tobi can cause Thunderblight which increases chances of getting stunned. Have ample Nullberrys on you to heal the effect.
• Stagger, Stagger, Stagger: Tobi is super easy to stagger. Aim for the head with a charged attack and it often leads to a stagger, or attack while it is charging on the tree to get easy staggers.
• Exploit Elemental Weakness: This isn’t applicable for a first fight (you won’t have access to elemental weapons), but is useful if you want to farm. As noted above, Tobi is especially weak to water elemental damage.
• SOS – If you need to, send out an SOS and get some extra help from the MHW community
