Beginner Tips for Conan Unconquered
Conan Unconquered is a new RTS out of Petroglyph Games that challenges players with surviving waves of enemies as they defend their kingdom. At first glance this game may seem a bit intimidating to new players, but I’ve thrown together a few beginner tips for Conan Unconquered to get you going right off the bat.
Your Hero Levels Up By Killing Enemies
In Conan Unconquered you have a hero on your side that is better than a normal unit. This hero has more health, does more damage, and has a special active move that unlocks as you level up. For the first few waves use your hero almost exclusively to level it up. This is useful for later waves.
To tell your hero’s levelling progress, look at the bar beneath their portrait. When the hero levels up, they will flash a bright light (seen in picture two). This will increase their health, damage, and unlock their special ability when applicable.
Become Familiar with the Tech Tree
As you get deeper and deeper into Conan Unconquered you will need to start making advanced units and buildings. These advancements are done via certain unlocks on the game’s tech tree. Become familiar with the tech tree so you know what to build and when to build it. You can see each tree unlock on our Conan Unconquered tech list.
Prepare for Waves in Advance with Next Wave Indicator
As a wave approaches, you will see a wave tracker on the top of your screen. If you hover over the incoming wave symbol you will get information on what enemies are coming in the wave. This information should be used to your advantage. Like any good RTS, each unit in Conan Unconquered has different weaknesses. Use the upcoming wave knowledge to exploit them.
Use Your Hero to Explore When There’s Downtime
While you will spend much of your time defending your kingdom, there is a lot of benefit in exploring the map. Not only will you find enemies to fight for XP, you will also discover treasure. When there’s downtime between waves, send your hero out to explore. This bonus XP and treasure (in the form of resources) can be very beneficial.
Know Your Resource Types
Resources play a huge role in Conan Unconquered. Pretty much everything you do will require resources, so having a lot available to you is important. With that said, keep in mind the two types of resources in the game and how to gain them. The two types of resources are as follows:
- Flat Resources: flat resources are resources earned one time on completion of a building. Flat resources are Food, Command, and Thralls.
- Resources Over Time: resources over time are earned over time after completion of a building. Resources over time include Gold, Wood, Stone, and Iron.
Knowing the difference between these two types of resources is important as you may be waiting around pointlessly for a resource only gained by building a new building.
