Super Mario Run 5 Things to Know
Pokemon GO was Nintendo’s first real foray into the Smartphone market, and the game was a success, marking a new age for Nintendo apps. As of today Nintendo’s newest app, Super Mario Run is out on Apple devices and the game already appears to be another hit. Here is my Super Mario Run 5 things to know about the games release.
1.Super Mario Run was Downloaded More in the First 24 Hours than Pokemon GO
After being out for only a mere 24 hours, Super Mario Run has already been downloaded 5 million times, according to app store optimisation company Sensory Tower. The game is currently available in over 150 countries and is the top downloaded app in 80 of those. These numbers exceed those of Pokemon Go, which had roughly 3.2 million downloads in its first 24 hours.
2. The Game has Limited Free to Play Features
Super Mario Run has been billed a f2p game on the Apple Appstore, however in order to unlock a majority of the game, a purchase of $9.99 USD is required. Fans looking forward to the game should be aware of this, as you either may not want to download or may want to wait for a sale on the games transactions.
3. Super Mario Run is Only Available on the Apple App Store
As an Android owner I was especially bummed to hear about the exclusivity of the app to Apple. Unlike Pokemon Go which rolled out to Android and Apple simultaneously, Super Mario Run is lock into the Apple ecosystem for the foreseeable future. I expect we will see the game sometime next year. As a bit of an aside, many Android users may look to side load an APK of the game. Be super cautious of this, as unlike Pokemon Go, there is no Android version of Super Mario Run anywhere on the market.
4. Super Mario Run has a 3 Out of 5 User Rating On the App Store
Reviews of Super Mario Run have begun to be released, and it appears the public feels the game is just okay. Apptopia, reports that 33,000 ratings have been given on the game and roughly half of these ratings are a mere 1 star. Here in Canada, Super Mario Run is sitting at a 2.5 rating, and we are typically known as being a friendly people. Complaints towards the game appear to focus on the high cost of the games transactions, as well as the games requirement of always being online.
5. Super Mario Runner is Making Money
Although reviews of the game may be less then stellar, Super Mario Runner is still making money. Exact numbers will not be possible to procure until Nintendo’s next conference call but, but many app analytics services are reporting transactions in the millions. Not bad for a game that is only a day old.
There you go. A list of 5 interesting things about the release of Super Mario Run. It will be interesting to see the longevity of Super Mario Run and how it compares to Pokemon Go.
