Camping is a new addition in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Whenever you feel like it you can setup a tent to spend time with your Pokemon and cook. Below I will show you how to camp in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.
How to Setup Camp in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield
While out in world open the menu and select Pokemon Camp. Doing this causes you to setup camp. In camp you have a couple of options: cooking, or toy (ie play with Pokemon). I will breakdown both options below.

How to Play with Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield?
When you tent is setup you can choose to play with your Pokemon. To do this select Toy. There are two types of toys you can use while playing: Ball or Feather+Bell. Using a toy with your Pokemon raises your relationship status with them. You will want to play with your Pokemon often if you wish to have a good relationship. Also note you can call over Pokemon while playing with them to chat with them. This is another good relationship builder.
How to Cook in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield?
Cooking is another activity you can undertake while you are camping. Cooking allows you to mix a number of ingredients together to make edible dishes. When you cook you will complete a short minigame that involves fanning the flames, stirring, and adding some love to the dish. When you’ve cooked something you and your Pokemon will eat it. Eating cooked dishes unlocks a number of bonuses such as XP, increased Pokemon friendship, and more. Be sure to explore the different types of recipes out there.
