What’s New in Stardew Valley 1.4

It has been a bit of a wait for new content to arrive for Stardew Valley, but the day is finally here. That’s right, ConcernedApe has thrown together a new update dubbed 1.4 for PC players (will come to consoles soon) to enjoy. This new update brings a bunch of new stuff with emphasis placed largely on endgame. To help you navigate this update check out the post below to learn what’s new in Stardew Valley 1.4. SPOILERS BELOW.

NOTE: Stardew Valley 1.4 is a huge update. There are tons of changes, tweaks, additions, etc. I honestly can’t cover it all below. Instead I choice to highlight what I feel is most interesting and important. If you want to read the full spoiler laden patch notes you can do so here.

Quality of Life Improvements & Additions

One of the major areas of focus for 1.4 was in the quality of life department. ConcernedApe mentioned this in the blog post here. These quality of life improvements have been added to almost every aspect of the game. While I won’t be listing them all, here are something interesting improvements/additions I’ve found so far:

  • Screenshot button in menu: allows you to take pictures of areas.
  • Added VSync option.
  • Clothes Tailoring and Dyeing are now in the game.
  • Tons of new clothing, hats, pants, boots, decorative items, weapons, animal products, flooring options, and more items to discover.
  • 2 new Secret Notes.
  • Can now emote using Y.
  • Changes to how a divorced spouse acts: doesn’t come to wedding, treats differently at Festivals.
  • New events and dialogue.
  • Added build-able Fish Ponds to breed fish.
  • Shed can be upgraded to double the size.
  • A Deluxe Scarecrow.

New Spouse 14-Heart Events

A big complaint of Stardew Valley has been the lack of interaction with your spouse once you are married to them. ConcernedApe has heard these complaints and has created new 14-Heart Events for all the spouses in game. I won’t go into detail on each event, but know they are in there for you to discover. If you want spoilers you can read our individual guides for each event below:

Added a Couple of New NPCs

ConcernedApe added a couple of new NPCs to Stardew Valley in update 1.4. These NPCs are the Calico Desert Trader and the Trash Bear. I won’t mention much else on either of the NPCs, but you can click the links above if you want more details. I will say the names of each NPC do give you a general idea what their purposes are in game.

New Farm Map called Four Corners

There is a new starting map for players to play on thanks to the new update. This new starting map is called the Four Corners. As the name suggests this map is split into four sections. Each section has its own unique perk: Trees, Farming, Fishing, and Mining. ConcernedApe mentioned he designed this map with co-op in mind.

Krobus Can Become Your Roommate

If marriage life isn’t for you but you still want some company, Krobus is now a viable roommate option. Like marriage you need to win over Krobus to get him to accept your offer to move into the farm house. For more info on the process check our guide here.

New Quarry Mine to Explore

There is a new one floor dungeon in the Quarry you can now explore. This mine features new enemies as well as resources to collect. If you can make it to the end of the mine you will earn the Golden Scythe.

Upon completion of the either the Community Center or Joja Mart route you will unlock one final building you can build. This building is the Movie Theater. As the name suggests you can visit this building and watch movies. To learn about the unlock process read our guide here.

The above items are the major additions Stardew Valley 1.4 added to the game. Again this is not everything in the patch. There is still a ton for you to find. These are just the largest additions.
