Paper Mario: The Origami King Prologue Guide

The first portion of Paper Mario: The Origami King is the game’s proluge. During this sequence Mario and Luigi head to Peach’s castle for a party. When they arrive there is no one around. Being the inquisitive duo they are, the plumbers decide to head into the castle. This starts the prologue. To get you through this sequence use our Paper Mario: The Origami King prologue guide.

Prologue Collectibles & Equipment:

  • Hammer.

Something is Wrong with Princess Peach

You will take control of Mario outside of the castle. Once Luigi parks the kart head forward with the L-stick to the castle doors. Interact with the doors using A to open them. In the first room of the castle Luigi will mention how spooky it is with nobody around. After this comment from Luigi the doors will slam shut locking you in. Luigi will then split leaving you all alone.

After your brother abandons you head to the right through the open door into the lobby. In the lobby you will encounter Princess Peach. Peach will ask you a series of question to which you can respond with either “Yes” or “No.” Pick whatever answer you like. After the question you will follow through a trapdoor in the floor that leads to the castle’s dungeon-themed waiting lounge.

How to escape the Dungeon-themed Lounge

Once you’ve spoken to the villains and the mysterious voice in the dungeon-themed lounge head to the left and stand on the black hand symbol on the floor there. When prompted press X to trigger your 1,00-Fold Arms. With the arms equipped reach up to the left corner of the wall and peel it to reveal Olivia.

Where to find the Hammer

With Olivia free make your way to the right over to where you see some crates. By the crates in the corner is the Hammer. By pressing B you can swing the hammer to smash things like crates. Use the hammer on the small crates to destroy them so you get a few coins. With the small crates smashed you will also reveal a hole in the wall leading to the right. Go through the hole and you will be stopped by Olivia who will tell you you can press X to get hints from her if needed (file that away in the old memory palace).

In the next room you will enter the dungeon hallway. Walk to the right in the hallway past the door and break the small crates in your way. Continue to the right until you reach the end of the hallway and you will see a slot in the wall. Interact with the slot to trigger a cutscene with a folded up Bowser. After the cutscene is over head left and go into the door we walked past.

In this room smash the small crate you see when you enter to get a coin then go to the right. Free Bowser by walking up to him and holding A to pull him. Once Bowser is free walk to the right and smash all the boxes there to reveal a 1,000-Fold Arms symbol. Interact with the symbol and grab the role on the right-side of the wall. Pull the roll to the left to reveal a doorway. Go through the door and head over to the save block. Jump with A to hit it so your game saves. Head to the and leave the room. Go up the spiral staircase and interact with the door there so you reach the castle’s exterior. Walk towards the main doors to meet Peach.

First Battle Against Four Goombas

After the cutscene with Peach you will be forced into the first battle against four Goombas. During this fight Olivia will walk you through the basics of fighting in the game. Listen to what she has to say so you can complete the battle. For completing this battle you will receive 500 coins.

This concludes our Paper Mario: The Origami King prologue guide. This section of the game is very linear and limited in where you can go and the collectibles you can find. With the prologue behind us it is on to the first real open level which is called Whispering Woods.
