After the opening cut scene you will take control of Leila. Leila is standing on top of a glowing orb she can interact with. Interact with the orb to learn the game’s controls like movement, jumping, using health, and how to open your map.

Head to the right of the orb to encounter The Lantern Keeper NPC. This interaction is not missable so let happen. Once you are done speaking to the NPC you will earn the I want to be a Vigilant achievement and will get 1x Owl Feather. Drop off the ledge to the right to the path below.

Walk along the path here until you encounter the bloody spikes in your path. Jump over the spikes then head to the right and jump up to the ledge above you. Interact with the Owl Statue and save your game if needed. Close out of this menu and continue heading to the right.

Fallen Tree Path Above and Dirt Path Below

Along the path to the right hit the cart in your way to get 1x Fledgling’s Blood Soul. Continue right and interact with the glowing orb on the path to learn how to Backstep and Roll. Use roll to roll under the spike trap in your path. Head right until you reach a split in the path where you can go above on a fallen tree or continue along the dirt path below.

Upper Path: Jump to the path above and head to the right. Take out the rat along the path to get some gold. Continue heading right to reach a harder enemy. Attack and wait for the enemy to wind up then roll away. Repeat until the enemy is defeated. Head right to reach a chest with 100 Gold in it. Return to lower path.

Lower Path: This is the path to take to continue forward. Follow it right and take out the enemy rat for some gold. Continue right and read the orb to learn how to drop down ledges. Drop down to the path below.

Down the Ladder with Rats Below

Head left on the lower path until you reach another orb. Interact with the orb to learn how to climb ladders. Walk over to the ladder on the left and climb down it to reach the path below.

On the path below you will be on a sort-of mound with a skeleton. From this mound you can go to the right or left. Head left and take out the 4+ rats at the dead end for gold and XP. Once this is done head to the right and follow the path to a table with 2x Healing Potions on it. Take the potions then interact with the glowing orb to learn about stamina control.

Before dead right into the boss arena you may want to level-up your character. You may also want to backtrack to the Owl Statue to create a save. Once you feel confident to take on a boss drop down into the boss arena.

Boss: The Craving Terror

The first boss you will encounter in Vigil: The Longest Night is The Craving Terror. This boss is a good introduction to the game’s combat and mechanics. If you struggle with this boss it only gets harder from here so keep that in mind. With that said you can farm the early rats and tough enemy around the Owl Statue to over-level if you need to.

In terms of tips try to stay behind the boss to avoid many of its attacks. This can be easily done by rolling through its body to reach the back of it. Get in a few hits at a time then retreat and wait for the boss to attack. Repeat this process and the first boss will fall fairly easily. For defeating The Craving Terror you will get the Withered Flower Ring some gold and the Night Hunter achievement.

Leave the boss arena to the right and jump+climb up to the ledge and the path on it. Continue heading to the right to meet The Lantern Keeper. After this conversation you will receive some lore Notes you can read. Follow the path to the right to reach the next area called Maye Bridge.
