Cyberpunk 2077 Next Gen Updates Targeted for Second Half of 2021

CD Projekt Red has had a rough month given the recent controversies surrounding the release of their first person action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077. Many of these controversies have stemmed from the game’s performance on last-gen consoles with reports of the game being almost unplayable. Due to these bugs many fans have been looking forward to the game’s next gen update for both PS5 and Xbox One. Thanks to a recent tweet we now have a better idea of when the Cyberpunk 2077 next gen updates may be coming.

When Are the Cyberpunk 2077 Next Gen Updates Coming?

CD Projekt Red took to the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account to layout the proposed timeline for fixes and free DLC content. This timeline spans 2021 and features a look at when players can expect next gen updates to be released for the game. The timeline itself is date less, but we do see the Free-Next Gen Console Update to be towards the end of 2021.

CD Projekt Red directly addressed the next-gen question in an FAQ that accompanied the timeline:

Q: When can we expect the next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077?

A: For those who are playing the game on next-gen consoles via backwards compatibility, we are planning the free, next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series consoles, and PlayStation 5, this year. We’re aiming for the second half of the year and we’ll reveal more when we have more to share.

This 2021 date is not set in stone, but it should be reassuring to current gen console owners to know an update is coming at some point in the future. Cyberpunk 2077 definitely benefits from running on more modern hardware so the wait should be worth it.

Cyberpunk 2077 released in December 2020 for PC, Xbox One X/Series X, PS4+5, and Stadia. CD Projekt Red developed the game and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (in America) Distributed it.
