Microsoft E3 2017 Conference
If there was one overarching theme of Microsoft’s E3 presentation this year, it was quantity. Microsoft showed off 42 games through the course of their 90+ minute presentation, which literally meant watching trailer after trailer, with intermittent breaks for gameplay. This approach was completely different than EA’s conference yesterday, where emphasis was placed more on presenters. While I’m not going to list everything shown at the Microsoft (there was a ton of indie stuff), I will present the 5 most important things from the Microsoft E3 2017 conference below.
Xbox Scorpio Now Has a Name, Price, and Release Date.
Instead of leaving their console reveal to the end of the show, Microsoft led with it. This approach worked in well to the theme of the show, which was 4k and power. Anyways, right off the bat we learned that the new Xbox One console is now called the Xbox One X. We also learned that the console is the “most powerful console ever made” and it will cost $499 USD. To close out the conference, we learned that the Xbox One X will release on November 7th.
Bioware’s New IP, Anthem, Shows “Gameplay”
To close out the conference, Microsoft left the heavy lifting up to Bioware. Teased yesterday, Anthem showed off some new gameplay. Gameplay revolves around traversing an open world in exo – rigs, killing enemies for loot, completing quests, playing with friends, and flying through the air Iron Man style. Anthem is slated to release sometime in 2018.
Assassin’s Creed Origins Takes the Franchise to Egypt
The internet has been buzzing over what exactly the next Assassin’s Creed will entail. While Origins was rather cryptic in name, the reveal of Assassin’s Creed Origins at the Microsoft Conference, laid to rest all the theories that have been floating around. The newest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise moves the setting back in time, to Egypt. Ubisoft released both a trailer as well as gameplay during the conference.
New Metro Announced
Fans of Metro were given a bit of a treat at the open of Microsoft’s conference, as Metro Exodus was revealed. Not much was explained or shown in the trailer, but the visuals look impressive. Metro Exodus will release in 2018.
Microsoft Still Owns Rare and They are Still Working on Sea of Thieves
It seems every E3 for the past while has had some type of Sea of Thieves gameplay and 2017 was no exception. Feast your eyes on more gameplay footage of Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves is supposedly coming out in early 2018.
That’s All the Major Stuff
Clocking in at over 90+ minutes, the Microsoft E3 2017 conference was filled to the brim with video gaming content. Overall, Microsoft did a really solid job of highlighting what the Xbox One X’s core mission is: deliver beautiful looking games and experiences. I would say they did a bang up job of delivering that message. With Microsoft bringing a laser like, game – centric focus, it will be interesting to see Sony’s approach.
Check out our rundown of the other E3 2017 Conferences: Sony, Bethesda, EA, Nintendo, and Ubisoft.
It looks like PS is trying more to push into VR while XBox is sticking with 4k/UHD. I think that practically right now the better resolution is appreciated but once VR gets a few more titles and fine tuned that VR will be a lot more fun.
They have the headset already which is a huge advantage. Microsoft has either chosen not to, or is working on VR.
Any word on the physical UHD playback specs for the Xbox One X?
