James Franco is Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist
Cult film The Room is getting remade, sort of. The Disaster Artist tells the real life story of Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero as they embark on filming The Room. Playing Wiseau is James Franco, while brother Franco, Dave, plays Sestero. Alongside Dave and James is a pretty stellar cast featuring Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Hannibal Buress, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone, and Jacki Weaver. Today, we got our first look at the cast in action.
The Disaster Artist Trailer
The trailer doesn’t really show off all that much, but highlights what a struggle filming The Room was. Wiseau (James Franco), the films titular lead, struggles to remember the lines for a rooftop scene in the film. What follows is multiple takes in which Wiseau continues to ask what the lines are. After 60+ tries, Wiseau nails the scene and everyone on set rejoices.
With such a stellar cast, I’m interested in seeing how The Disaster Artist shakes out. Having not seen The Room, I’m somewhat lost on the whole cult classic element of the film, but this may get me to watch it.
The Disaster Artist is set to release on December 8th, 2017.
I think you missed the point that this trailer was of them as themselves, shooting the movie The Disaster Artist, and not that this was supposed to be Tommy Wiseau screwing up.
Good write up though buddy
I see…
Really? I got the impression that it was supposed to be portraying Wiseau and how he sucked at being filmed.
