Box Office Rundown: Birds of Prey Underwhelms, Bad Boys Continues Making Money
This weekend marked the release of Warner Brothers first Harley Quinn standalone film titled Birds of Prey. While the movie has been receiving positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike, the film appears to be a box office flop bringing in an estimated $33.3 Million (domestic) over its debut weekend. This opening is far below the projected $50-55 million many analysts were expecting, and marks one of the lowest debuts of all the DCEU films.
On a brighter note Bad Boys for Life continues to perform well in the box office bringing in a total of $12,005,000 (domestic) in its third weekend which raises its global haul to $336 million. This total is good for second place this weekend. Considering the film’s reported $90 million budget, Sony Pictures must be pleasantly surprised with the results of this Bad Boys sequel.
Rounding out the top three is the Sam Mendes’ best picture nominated 1917. This pseudo one-shot war movie pulled in an estimated $9,000,000 (domestic) over the weekend. This weekend marks the film’s sixth week showing.
Closing out the weekend Box Office top five are the can talk to animals film Dolittle in fourth and the video-game adventure film Jumanji: The Next Level in fifth place.
