Call of Duty Modern Warfare Will Not Have Loot Boxes Says Art Director
Call of Duty a series notorious for its microtransaction system will not be getting loot boxes in its newest iteration, Call of Duty Modern: Warfare, says Infinity Ward’s Art Director Joel Emslie.
The announcement that Call of Duty Modern Warfare will not have loot boxes was made on a Reddit post in the r/ModernWarfare sub. The post made by Emslie, titled Current events reads as follows:
Sigh. There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare. What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through GAMEPLAY. Stay tuned, we’re planning to release info this week.

The post by Emslie appears to be in response to leaks that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta featured spots for Supply Drops (Loot Boxes) in the After Action Report. These leaks implied there was some sort of MTX system like those featured in previous Call of Duty titles.
Fans being leery of a loot box system being included in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does not seem that off base as the most recent title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 featured a Supply Drop system that has earned higher revenue than Call of Duty: WWII.
To highlight how the new system is different than previous titles Infinity Ward is releasing new information about the game’s loot system this week ahead of the game’s October 25th launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is slated to release on October 25th on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Players that pick up the PlayStation version of the game will gain console exclusive access to the Special Ops Survival mode for one year.
