Dark Souls 2 Top Ten Armor Sets

5. Smelter Demon Set

top ten best armor sets in Dark Souls 2

Location: Dark Souls 2 base game/Crown of The Iron King DLC

Description: “Armor of the Smelter Demon, a great mass of iron that was given life. High fire defense. The Old Iron King was possessed of a great bounty of ore, but was incinerated by a creature that rose from the infernal depths of the earth.”

The Smelter Set is fairly unique looking which lands it fifth on my list. After beating the Smelter Demon in the vanilla game, or in The Crown of The Iron King DLC, you can purchase this set. For me the helmet alone is pretty boss.

4. Dark Set

Location: Dark Souls 2 base game

Description: “No one know the true identity of these men who are said to freely manipulate dark. Old foreign legends describe them as poor souls who chased the lost art of lifedrain.”

Coming in at fourth on this list, is the Dark Set. Unlike many of the sets on this list, the Dark Set is not a boss set, but is simply found while travelling through Lothric. The set makes the fourth spot on my list, because it makes me think of Halloween. More specifically it makes me think of Halloween masks. For a non – boss set, the Dark Set is easily the best looking. Who doesn’t want to walk around looking like a skeleton?

3. Penal Set

Location: Dark Souls 2 base game

Description: By now, no one knows who this was used to punish, or for what reason.”

The Penal Set belongs to the boss The Lost Sinner, who is arguably one of the best fights in Dark Souls 2. The Lost Sinner is a prisoner located in the lower portions of Sinner’s Rise, inside a room where there is no light. This makes the fight especially fun. From an armor set perspective, I like the Penal Set as it is relatively minimal in design, but the mask is rather intricate in detail. This helps add to the mystery of who The Lost Sinner really is.

2. King’s Set

Top ten armor sets in Dark Souls 2

Location: Dark Souls 2 base game

Description: “An old armor that is oddly comfortable. Belonged to a King. What makes a king? Some say that it is a birthright, while others call it destiny. Perhaps it is not important, as long as the king’s name serves to unite his people.”

The King’s Set is an interesting armor set to me for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that the set itself is completely missable. In order to get the King’s Set, a player needs to beat King Vendrick. This fight is somewhat of a pain, but feels really good to complete. Once Vendrick is defeated, you gain access to a room with a throne inside. On the throne is the King’s set. The Second reason I really like the set, is due to the description of the set. Read the description above and tell me there isn’t some philosophical wisdom in it.

1. Alonne’s Set

Location: Crown of The Iron King DLC

Description: “Armor/Leggings worn by Sir Alonne, who served the Old Iron King. Sir Alonne came to this land from the east, chose to serve a little-known and unestablished lord, and helped him become the Old Iron King. Then, at the very peak of his sire’s rule, Sir Alonne set out again, in search of lands yet unknown.”

Coming in at number one on my top ten Dark Souls 2 armor sets is Alonne’s Set. Worn by the boss Sir Alonne, this set is everything I want from a Dark Souls armor set and more. From the mask to the leggings, everything about Alonne’s Set is just so well crafted. The long ponytail is an especially nice touch. Pair this set with a nice samurai sword and you will feel like a complete boss.
