Death’s Gambit Guide

After making your way through Gaian’s Cradle, you will arrive in Rider’s Passage. This area is relatively linear and short, so don’t expect a ton of depth below. With that being said, Rider’s Passage does contain the first real boss fight in Death’s Gambit, so we will be able to dive right into the first fight below.

Rider’s Passage

Death's Gambit Rider's Passage

Rider’s Passage is a relatively short area.

You can walk or ride through Rider’s Passage if you so desire. Riding on your horse will get you through this section much faster and also allows you to run over the enemies found within which is pretty nice. Regardless of how you choose to approach this area, make your way to the right.

Ladder

As you are riding, you will come across a an area above you which has a ladder leading up. This ladder can be ignored completely as it requires the Crest of Gaia to getting any further than the locked door. Keep this in mind as you playthrough Death’s Gambit as you will often find places which will require backtracking from a latter point in the game.

Death Idol

Death Idol Rider's Passage.

There is a Death Idol right before the Owlking boss fight. I highly suggest using it.

Continue to ride to the right and you will eventually come across a Death Idol. Sit at the idol and level up/prepare for the boss fight ahead. Just right of the Death Idol is the arena for the Owlking boss fight. When you are ready, make your way into the fight. Let’s do this.

Boss Fight: Owlking

Owlking is the first major boss you will fight in Death’s Gambit. As a first boss he is relatively simple to face. In total Owlking has two phases (with the second phase triggering at 50%). In both phases Owlking possess a sweeping claw swipe as well as a portal attack. Your best bet here is to shield or roll through the attacks and then retreat. To get a better idea of the fight. Check out the video above.

After you’ve completed the fight, you will earn a talent point and some shards. Head back to the Death Idol and level up (I spent it on VIT/STR/2x HST). You can also spend your talent point in whatever area you feel is wise to spend it. Once you’ve done both of these things, head right through the Owlking’s arena to the next portion of Rider’s Passage.

In the next area of Rider’s Passage make your way to the right (ignore the ladder down for now), until you reach a bunch of platforms with a blue book on top of them. This blue book is a new ability for your class. Jump up the platforms and climb the ladder up. At the top of the ladder you will reach the hub area called Central Sanctuary. In this area you will find shops and NPCs.

Note: The Ladder going down leads to an area with a ledge that is unreachable, but has a number of items on it. Remember this location and return to it later. From what I can tell, the more you die, the more your corpses pile up creating a ramp up to this seemingly unreachable ledge. On the ledge you will find Immortalite StoneLeaf of GaiaAldwynn Greatsword +4Vados Spear +4, and the Fortitude ability.
