Death’s Gambit Guide
After making our way through the Central Sanctuary, it is time to get back to fighting enemies and killing bosses. Luckily for us, the next boss is fairly close. In this next area you can run straight to the boss if you want, or (as I recommend) you can grab the two tomes before the fight. I’ll being showing you the locations of these tomes before diving into the boss fight myself.
Phoenix Boss Journal #1
To get the first boss journal, you want to make your way into the camp area. Walk left until you see two archers and a large spiked platform. The spiked platform will fall if you walk under it, so be sure to pay attention to it. The easiest thing to do here is walk under it then run away. This will trigger the spiked contraption to fall, opening up a hole in the floor. Down the hole in the next area is where we will find the first Phoenix tome. Note: the first Phoenix tome is guarded by two shield bearers. Be prepared to fight when you fall down.
Once you have the tome you will need to make your way back up to the area with the tents. To do this, make your way lower (grab the Gaian Blood). You will see another staff wielder in the lower area, kill him then walk by and fall down. You are now back in Rider’s Passage, just before the Central Sanctuary. Make your way all the way to wear the tents are (where you dropped down below) to get the second tome.
Phoenix Boss Journal #2
When you are back in the area with the tents and cages, make your way up the ladder behind the archers. Climb the ladder all the way up and then grab the Crystallized Plume. Turn around and walk to the edge with the ladder and jump down to the platforms below (there is an archer on them). Head right and jump to the next platform. Jump to the castle ruins and kill the shieldbearer. Behind the shieldbearer is the second Phoenix tome.
With both Phoenix tomes in hand, we can face off against the Phoenix boss. To reach this boss, head back to where you got the Crystalized Plume and continue heading to the left. You will enter the boss arena in the next room.
Boss Fight: Soul of the Phoenix
This boss is way faster than the Owlking and can easily one shot you if you get caught in its chain spinning attack. With that said, if you stack a good amount of damage you can easily take this boss down in a few seconds. Like the Owlking the Soul of the Phoenix has two phases with phase 2 being more difficult than phase 1. For a good look at the fight. See the video above.
For killing the Soul of the Phoenix you get a Skill Point and some shards. Leave the boss arena to the left to reach a Death Idol. Spend your skill point and shards to level up. That’s all there is to it.
