Starting the Vex Invasion Mission

After the cutscene you will head to the Tower. On the Tower make your way to Ikora Rey and speak with her. She now has a new mission for you called the Vex Invasion. This mission tasks you with completing the following on the Moon:

  • 100 Vex defeated.
  • 3 Gate Lords defeated.

For completing the above mentioned tasks you will unlock the Vex Mind Components and a Powerful Gear (Tier 1) item. Head to the Moon.

Unlock Eyes on the Moon Quest Item

On the Moon you are looking for Vex to kill. These randomly appear at the Vex Invasion Zone icons on your map (found in Archer’s Landing, Hellmouth, and Anchor of Light). Keep in mind the emphasis on random spawning.

To finish this portion of the mission you need to kill 100 Normal Vex and 3 Gate Lords. Normal Vex enemies will appear in small clusters in each zone (as well as through portals). The Gate Lords come through portals that appear in the sky. Ideally you will have no trouble finding these portals, but it may take simply looping through each area to find them.

Upon completion of the objectives you will receive the Eye on the Moon quest item. Turn this item into Eris Morn. This allows you to start the Vex Offensive mission on your map. Do this now.

Vex Offensive Mission

The Vex Offensive mission tasks you and a group of up to five other Guardians with making your way through the Black Garden while taking out Vex. This mission is broken up into three areas. The first two areas play out very similar, while the final area features a boss fight.

Area 1: Opening Area

When you start the mission head forward until you reach a Network Node. Hack the Network Node to trigger a new objective which is to dismantle Vex. When this objective triggers you will have 5 minutes to complete the next two objectives in this area. To dismantle Vex simply kill the waves that spawn in. Once you’ve done this the second objective will trigger which is to destroy six Oracles . To do this kill the Gate Technicians that spawn and use the Void Cranium they drop on the floating crystals. Once you’ve destroyed all six a chest will spawn. Loot the chest then complete the short platforming sequence to reach area 2.

Area 2: Middle Area

Area 2 works exactly like Area 1, only the amount you need to do increases. Start the area by Hacking the Network Node then complete the Vex Dismantled objective. After this objective you will have to destroy 12 Oracles this time around. Once you complete both of these objectives a chest will spawn and you will need to complete another short platforming sequence to reach the boss area.

Area 3: Grotheon, Gate Keeper

In the final area of the mission you reach an end boss called Grotheon, Gate Keeper. This end boss is a Gate Keeper type vex enemy. While fighting this boss it will raise a shield. You need to use the Void Cranium dropped by the Gate Technicians to lower this shield and deal damage to it. Repeat this process a few times and Grotheon will fall. This completes the Vex Offensive mission.

When ready return to Ikora to gather you spoils. Congratulations on finishing this mission! Have any comments, questions, or anything else you want to add? Drop me a line in the comments. You can also check out our other Destiny 2: Shadowkeep guides here.
