EA’s Play Conference 2017
E3 is upon us and as I am not a large media outlet, I was at home watching streams like all the plebeians. First stream of the day was Electronic Arts. Electronic Arts is not an official E3 conference anymore, because they do their own thing, but they still schedule it around E3, so their conference basically kicks off E3 (confusing). Anyways, at this years EA conference, there was a wide range of game titles presented. Check out our recap of EA’s Play conference below.
Madden 18
No Surprise here. EA starts out their Play conference with one of the largest sports franchises out there. The big advancement in the Madden series this year, is the introduction of a story mode. Like NBA 2K or FIFA, fans will now be able to play through some type of story set in a football universe.
Battlefield 1 – In The Name of the Tsar DLC
In another not surprising announcement, Battlefield 1 is getting a bunch of DLC. This includes night maps, new armies, new fronts of the war, and new Operation stories. The expansion is called In The Name of the Tsar. It is slated for release in September of this year.
Alongside the announcement of In The Name of Tsar, EA hinted at implementing, smaller and tighter matches, but details won’t be released until Gamescom.
FIFA 18
If you thought there wouldn’t be a FIFA 18, you were mistaken! EA followed up two already established franchises, with yet another franchise announcement, FIFA 18.
One of the major highlights of the FIFA 18 reveal, was the Men in Blazers segment. Men in Blazers is some type of comedy football analysis show. It will feature a bunch of celebrity guests, including Kevin Bacon!
EA also pushed their Alex Hunter storyline that will be part of The Journey game mode.
Need for Speed: Payback
EA showed off some gameplay of the upcoming Need for Speed: Payback. The game looks very Need for Speedy, but that ain’t necessarily a bad thing. The footage showed a Mustang chasing a Semi – truck. The sequence was high speed and filled with car smashing goodness.
A Way Out
From the makers of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, comes A Way Out. The game involves breaking out of prison and being on the lam. It appears to be heavily centered on co-operative play, split screen play. Seriously. This was one of the major points of the game’s presentation. A Way out looks to be playing loosely in The Last of Us wheelhouse. A Way Out is slated for release in 2018.
Anthem
This was probably the most interesting part of EA’s Play Conference, and it was the shortest. Not much was shown off. A brief teaser trailer was shown and that was it. More footage is slated for Microsoft’s E3 2017 briefing. For those that don’t know, Anthem is a new IP out of Bioware.
NBA Live 18
Remember NBA Live? Probably not, it’s the other NBA game on the market and EA wants you to know it. NBA Live 18 was announced and adds a bunch of new game modes to the series.
Star Wars Battlefront 2
What is now the top gem of EA’s hat, Star Wars Battlefront 2, got the most love. EA closed the conference off with 30 minutes of Star Wars Battlefront 2. The huge announcements were the inclusion of a Storyline Mode, 3x the content across all 3 eras, deeper progression and customization in multiplayer, and better graphics.
Another announcement made in the conference, was that all post – launch content would be free to everyone who purchases Star Wars Battlefront II.
That’s All for EA
After the 30 minutes of Star Wars Battlefront gameplay came to a close, that ended EA’s Play Conference.
