Galaxy 2.0 is GOG’s New Way of Centralizing Multiple PC Game Libraries
One of the plights of the PC gamer is having a bajillion launchers and libraries of games. Currently gamers have a wide range of storefronts to choose from which means having to open and close different libraries to get at titles you bought. Up until now players have been largely left to deal with this fracture on their own. Now GOG is throwing their hat into the ring with Galaxy 2.0 a new program that aims to organize “all your games and friends in one place.”
GOG Galaxy 2.0 Beta
At the time of writing Galaxy 2.0 is currently in beta stage (you can sign up here). Since the program is in beta I figured we could take a look at some of the features this new program is aiming to provide gamers.
- One Library: “Import all your games from PC and consoles, build and organize them into one master collection.”
- Stats: “Keep track of all your achievements, hours played and games owned, combined across platforms.”
- Game Launcher: “Install and launch any PC game you own, no matter the platform.”
- Full Customization: “Create custom library views by filtering, sorting, tagging and adding your own visuals like game backgrounds and covers.”
- Game Discovery (Coming Soon): “Follow upcoming releases, and discover games popular among your friends and the gaming community. “
While these are the major features of Galaxy 2.0, the beta highlights a number of other features such as enhanced privacy with guarantees of no spying, no sharing of data with third parties, and one click data removal. There are also a number of friend based features including leaderboards, activity feeds, cross platform chat (coming soon), and a master friend list (coming soon).
At a time when PC gaming is becoming far more splintered and walled off, having a master program to manage all of your libraries and launchers seems like it could make a really positive impact for gamers. GOG throwing their hat into the ring on this matter is a welcome surprise.
