How to Dive in Animal Crossing New Horizons
In the Wave 1 update for Animal Crossing New Horizons a new game play mechanic was added that allows players to dive. Diving allows players to access the ocean islands which means gathering new sea creatures and triggering new encounters. To learn how to use this new feature check out our how to dive in Animal Crossing New Horizons guide below.
Download and Install Version 1.3.0
Before you can use the new dive and swim mechanic in Animal Crossing New Horizons you need to ensure your game is updated with the Version 1.3.0 update. This update can be acquired using the internet by highlighting Animal Crossing New Horizons on your Switch home-screen and pressing + > Software Update > Via the Internet. Triggering this option checks for and starts downloads of any new software updates.
Purchase Wet Suit and Snorkel from Nook Stop
Once you have the update installed login to your game. Upon spawning in access your mailbox and you will have a letter from Nook Inc. This letter says the following:
Great news. We’ve confirmed that the waters around our island are safe for swimming, so we’re offering a new line of wet suits for sale. You can swim, dive, or simply kick back in your new suit. Enjoy.
Nook Inc.
After you’ve read this letter (or skipped it completely) make your way to the Nook Stop. In both the Redeem Nook Miles or Nook Shopping tabs you can purchase the Nook Inc. wet suit. Purchase the wet suit so it is sent to your mailbox which takes 1 IRL day. Pass the time (wink, wink) and grab the wet suit your receive as a present from your mailbox.
Equip Wet Suit and Dive to Your Heart’s Content
Equip the wet suit and head to an area you wish to dive. Walk to the edge of the water you wish to dive into and push ‘A’. This will cause your character to dive into the ocean. While you are out in the ocean you can tap ‘A’ to swim and ‘Y’ to dive. Items you can dive for can be found in areas there are bubbles coming up to the surface. Keep in mind you can dive in the ocean around your island and in the ocean around mystery islands.
