Jyuratodus Guide: Monster Weakness, Carves & Rewards, Armor Sets – Monster Hunter World

In Monster Hunter: World, you hunt a variety of monsters. Some monster you fight like land, others like the air, while some like the water. Jyuratodus falls into the latter camp and can be found in swampland in Wildspire Waste. To track this beast, look for the Sticky Mud and Footprints it leaves around the map. To learn more about Jyuratodus, check out the Jyuratodus guide below.

Storyline Quest: Sinister Shadows in the Swamp

Hunting Quest Text: “A young scholar has gotten separated from his escort out in the Wildspire Waste. Find him and escort him back to base. Neutralize any large monsters that pose a threat.”

Characteristics: A large piscine wyvern that inhabits the swamps of the Wildspire Waste. It uses mud to capture prey, and it’s known to battle Barroth over territory.

Useful Information: It’s nearly impossible to fight a Jyuratodus in its swampy home. Coerce it to land, and then use water element weapons or you slinger to slowly chip away at its hardened mud armor.

Jyuratodus Fight Guide

Main Fight Mechanics: Mud + Waterblight (Status Effect)

Mud : Jyuratodus will coat itself in mud like Barroth. In this state, Jyuratodus gains a coverage of mud that serves as armor. When Jyuratodus covers itself in mud, Thunder element damage loses its effectiveness, and Water element damage gains effectiveness. To knock the mud off, use Water damage or your Slinger (mud will gradually come off during fight regardless).

Another aspect of the mud mechanic is how it affects the hunter. Jyuratodus has a number of ways of delivering mud throughout battle areas. The first is a spit (rears up and spits out mud blobs), the second is a tailwhip, and the third is when the mud falls off after a coating. Regardless of how the mud appears, it will encase the hunter and make movement difficult (simply roll out to escape)

Waterblight: Jyuratodus can inflict the Waterblight status effect on Hunters. This status effect causes the hunter’s stamina to regain more slowly. While under the effect, a water droplet appears above the players health bar (two appear for Severe), and the stamina bar turns blue. Use a Nulberry to cure the effect.

Attacks:

Depending on whether or not Jyurtados is in water will determine the attacks it uses. In water is has a much larger tool kit than on land.

*I attempted to grab all the attacks I saw. Let me know if I missed some in The Pit.

In Water:

  • Submerge/Reemerge – Will submerge and then violently reemerge where hunter is standing (can go through solid ground).
  • Spit (Mud Attack) – Rears up and spits either a large blob of mud, or number of smaller ones in front of self (short range).
  • Spin – Spins vertically in place and can deal damage to the hunter if they get close enough.
  • Lunge/Bite – If you get close to the head, the monster can lunge/bite towards you.
  • Tailwhip (Mud Attack) – Can tailwhip which deals damage and leaves piles of mud.

Out of Water (on foot):

  • Charge – Will charge at the hunter.
  • Headbash – Can bash head at hunter if nearby.
  • Lunge/Bite – If you get close to the head, the monster will lunge/bite towards you.

Fight Tips:

This fight can be a bit of a pain, especially during the quest Sinister Shadows in the Swamp quest, since you won’t have an elemental weapon. However keep in mind that Jyuratodus is much easier to handle out of the water so bait it onto land for an easier battle. Other tips I have for you:

  • Eat up – Head into the fight having eaten a meal from the Canteen (do this for every fight to make life easier).
  • Clear Gaju in Den: Make the fight easier by killing the Gaju inside the Jyuratodus den before engaging (keeps them from attacking you mid fight).
  • Bring Nullberry: Jyuratodus can cause Waterblight, which decreases stamina regen speed. Have ample Nullberrys on you to heal the effect.
  • Stagger, Stagger, Stagger: Jyuratodus is super easy to stagger. Aim for the head with a charged attack and it often leads to a stagger, or attack while it is coating itself in mud for the same result.
  • Exploit Elemental Weakness: This isn’t applicable for a first fight (you won’t have access to elemental weapons), but is useful if you want to farm. As noted above, Jyuratodus is especially weak to water/thunder elemental damage.
  • SOS – If you need to, send out an SOS and get some extra help from the MHW community

Note: share your tips in the comments and I will add them here.
