Need for Speed Payback Trailer

Borrowing from Fast and Furious

After peeping the trailer, you probably noticed a few things. The first is that Need for Speed Payback looks like it is borrowing from the Fast and Furious playbook rather heavily. Even the official game synopsis sound like a plot we’ve seen before:

After being double-crossed and forced into exile, it’s time for Payback. Tyler must rebuild his crew, win an impossible race and bring down The House, the cartel that has a grip over the city’s casinos, criminals and cops. It’s not going to be easy though. Tyler and the crew will find themselves in the middle of some of the most action-packed, explosive events in Need for Speed history.  (Source)

Heists

The other thing you might have noticed is a guy that sounds like Idris Elba (?). I couldn’t find any confirmation on this, but that would really have me creamin. Regardless, EA promises that Need for Speed Payback will be far more than simply racing as there will be a heist centric gameplay element:

This explosive adventure is filled with intense heist missions, high stakes car battles, epic cop pursuits and jaw dropping set pieces. It’s blockbuster gameplay never before seen from the series, fueled by a gripping story of betrayal and revenge. With Need for Speed Payback, it’s no longer just about being the first to cross the finish line or racing to prove to be the best, it’s about building the perfect ride, getting behind the wheel and playing out an action driving fantasy. (Source)

Pre – Order Bonuses

How exactly the heist mechanics will play out, remains to be seen. This change seems like it could be a welcome breath of fresh air into a stagnant franchise. Fans of Need for Speed can pre-order Need for Speed Payback at various outlets or online, and will receive some pre -order goodies:

Nissan 350Z 2008
Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967
