Paper Mario: The Origami King Eddy River Guide
What starts as a peaceful river cruise along the Eddy River quickly turns into a gameplay sequence where Mario has to control the boat. To control the boat use the L-Stick up or down. Avoid obstacles or you will lose one heart piece. The boat you are in has a total of five hearts until you game over. To help you complete this sequence use our Paper Mario: The Origami King Eddy River guide.
Eddy River Collectibles List (100%)
- 8x Not-Bottomless Holes.
- Coin Captain trophy.
There are not Toad Rescues or ? Blocks in this location. Instead you will need to fill in Not-Bottomless Holes along the way down the river. Alongside the Not-Bottomless Holes there is a Coin Captain trophy you can unlock by collecting all the coins. This is hard to do so put it on the back burner for the time being.
Eddy River Guide
When you start the river sequence the Oarsman Toad will tell you how to control the boat. After this information you will have control of the boat. Getting to the end is fairly simple as all you need to do is avoid obstacles. With that said while going down the river be on the lookout for the following Not-Bottomless Holes:
- Foreground bank after the first four coin arch near the start of the river.
- Background cliff face before the second set of rapids that drop you.
- Background cliff after the third drop in the area with floating logs.
- Foreground bank in the middle of the area you encounter the falling rocks near the 100 coin.
- In the area you encounter both floating logs and falling rocks you will find this hole in the foreground bank.
- Background cliff wall just after 5 need to make a sharp turn up to reach.
- In the area with the whirlpools you will find the hole on the cliffside wall in the background.
- Ride the large whirlpools outer edge so you reach the log tunnel. On the left side of the log you will find the final hole in the cliff.
If you miss any of the holes listed above you can simply replay the Eddy River by talking to the Oarsman Toad at Autumn Mountain, Shogun Studios, or Sweetpaper Valley. Any holes filled prior will remain filled on retries so you can focus on ones you missed.
Upon reaching the end of the Eddy River you will reach Shogun Studios which is the next portion of the main story. If you don’t care about getting the Coin Captain trophy simply continue on with our guide via the link above.
How to Get the Coin Captain Trophy
The Coin Captain Trophy is rewarded to players that collect every coin during the Eddy River sequence. This tasks is rather difficult to complete as you basically need a perfect run. If you miss even one coin the run is ruined and you will need to start again. With that said here are some tips to help you accomplish this task:
- Practice the Eddy River so you learn coin layout and boat handling.
- Focus on the location of Mario not other parts of the boat as Mario needs to collect the coins.
- Take strategic hits when needed to slowdown or readjust and replenish health as you go down the river.
- Time your jumps as late as possible on the rapid sections so you get all the coins.
If you want to see how a complete run looks check out the video above by TheDay2DayGamer. This will give you a good feel for how to complete this rather difficult gameplay section.
