Whispering Woods Walkthrough/Guide

You will start the Whispering Woods level stuck in the top of a tree. Press A repeatedly to get Mario unstuck. When you land head to the foreground and go down the steps there so you reach the Not-Bottomless Hole 1.

Where to Get the Confetti Bag

When you get close to this hole in the environment Olivia will explain to you how to fix it. Basically you need to fill the Confetti Bag she gives you with confetti you find in the world by hitting trees, flowers, and certain objects. Fill your Confetti Bag via the beginning are of the level then head back to the Not-Bottomless Hole. Fill the hole with the confetti you gathered by pressing ZR three times. For filling this hole you get about 50 coins. Continue heading to the left to find Olivia stuck in the ground. Walk over and hold A to pull Olivia out of the ground.

With Olivia back on your squad return to the tree you were stuck in earlier and head to the right. Use your 1,000-Fold Arms on the tree and knock it over to make a tunnel leading across the gap to the back-right. Walk through the tree tunnel and hit the ? block for a Mushroom (item). Head to the right onto the next screen and continue right until trigger a cutscene. Continue right and fill in the Not-Bottomless Hole 2 for some coins then use the save block. Head into the next area to the right.

In this new area head to the right until you see the Not-Bottomless Hole 3 in the along the back next to a tree. Fill it in for a few coins. Continue heading to the right and fill in both Not-Bottomless Hole 4 & 5 to get some coins and access to the ? block for 1000 Coins. Once you’ve filled these holes head down the ramp leading to the foreground where there is Not-Bottomless Hole 6. Fill the hole to get more coins then continue down the ramp.

At the bottom of the ramp head to the right and fill the Not-Bottomless Hole 7 that is by the tree next to the spikes. Continue heading to the right so you drop down into the lower area. Jump up to the ledge so you can access the background with the trees with the vines. Pull the first vine then go right and pull the second vine to cause leaves to fall into the lower area we were just in. These leaves are part of a memory mini-game.

Whispering Woods Leaf Mini-Game

To complete the Whispering Woods mini-game use your hammer on the leaves to flip them over. On the underside of the leaves there are symbols. Match the symbols to complete the mini-game. When you complete the mini-game a Star will drop. Grab the star then run make your way through the spikes to the left to reach the Collectible Treasure No 1: Peach’s Castle from the chest there. Drop down from the ledge with the chest and run to the foreground through the spikes there. Here you will see the outline of a square. Jump at this spot to get a hidden ? block that has 1000 Coins in it.

Whispering Woods Golden Sphere

Now that you’ve cleared this area head back to the mini-game spot and go up to the trees with the vines. Pull all of the vines in this area and fill in Not-Bottomless Hole 8+9. When you pull the middle-right vine you need to pull it three times to get the log to fall. After this happens you are able to reach the ledge with the golden orb on it. Use the log to reach this ledge then head to the foreground to reach Not-Bottomless Hole 10. Fill this in then head to the back right to find Not-Bottomless Hole 11. Fill this hole in and cross it to reach a ? block that has 1000 Coins in it.

To open the golden sphere in the Whispering Woods hit the tree directly behind it to have a 1,000-Fold Arms symbol appear. Use this to pull open the sphere. Once open a Shriveled Seed will drop. Pick up the seed then head into the misty exit in the background.

Meeting Grandsappy

In this next room you will see a large tree stump in the middle of the room. There’s nothing we can do here so head out of the room via the exit to the right. You will end up back in the room we were just in. Keep going exiting via the right exit until Olivia stops and speaks to you. After this interaction jump onto the tree stump to meet Grandsappy. Long story short Grandsappy needs you to help him. In exchange for your help he will let you advance further into the Whispering Woods. Head to the right after this interaction to reach the new area.

Walk down the path until your reach the save block. Use it to save if needed then head down the ramp. Fill the Not-Bottomless Hole 12 for some coins then continue down the grass slop. Near the bottom of the slope you will be attacked by some Goombas that jump out of the bush. Complete the battle and fill Not-Bottomless Hole 13 so you can continue down the path to the tree at the end for another battle. Complete the battle and speak to the tree if you wish to get some lore and coins.

Drop down to the lower portion to the left of the tree speak tot he tree there. After talking to the tree fill in the Not-Bottomless Hole 14. Continue left to trigger another battle. Complete this battle and fill in Not-Bottomless Hole 15. Keep going to the left (ignore the obvious platform next to the spring) and you will reach a path heading up with Not-Bottomless Hole 15 + 16. Fill these holes then open the Treasure Chest for Collectible Treasure No 2: Mushroom. Head back to the spring and interact with it with A to trigger a cutscene. During this cutscene toss the Shriveled Seed into the spring when prompted to get the Soul Seed in return.

Take the Soul Seed and head back to Grandsappy. Grandsappy’s face is missing so use your confetti to fill in Not-Bottomless Hole 18. When Grandsappy is whole again give him the Soul Seed. After you give the seed there is a brief performance. Once this performance concludes a new path opens in the back right corner. Use this path to reach the next area.

Road to Toad Town

On this new path use the save then hammer the leaning blue fence on the right to knock it over. Continue along the path and fill in the Not-Bottomless Hole 19 along the way. Follow the path to the right until you drop down. Here you will encounter a folded Toad that is stuck to a bush. Free Toad 1 by bashing it with your Hammer (B) repeatedly. Once freed the Toad will tell you about the Cheer system. Basically the more hidden Toads you find the better it will be for you in battle.

After the run in with the first Toad continue along the path to the right until you reach some tents. By the tent in the foreground you will find Not-Bottomless Hole 20. Fill it then cross the path to the closed tent. Open this tent to find Toad 2. Straighten the Toad out then continue down the path until you see a Goomba on a swing. Defeat this Goomba in battle then hit the swing with your Hammer to make the bug change places. Hit the bug with your Hammer to reveal Toad 3.

To the right of the swing you will find Not-Bottomless Hole 21 by some tree stumps. Fix this hole so you can reach the ? block that has 1000 Coins in it. Go back to the path and continue to the right over the bridge. You will see a red bench near the bridge. Stop and sit on it to trigger a cutscene with Olivia and heal up. Go back to the path and continue following it to the right down some steps.

At the bottom of the steps you should see Toad 4 stuck in a tree stump. Jump onto the trunk and pull the Toad out. From this Toad walk to the foreground and head to the tree in the left corner. Hit the tree and a bug will lower. Hit the bug to rescue Toad 5. Return to the path and you will see Not-Bottomless Hole 22 + 23. Fill them in then fight the Goomba in the table area. After you beat this enemy grab Toad 6 from under the stool. Immediately turn around and jump onto the stump next to the plate. Hammer the plate to rescue Toad 7.

Head back to the path and go slightly right into the foreground to find Toad 8 stuck inside a shrub. Hammer it out. From here go onto the deck of the cabin and take a left to reach the floating coin and Toad 9. Leave the cabin and go back to the path and head to the right. You should see flower planters on the deck railing. One of the planters has no flowers in it. Stand under this planter and jump to cause a flower to appear. Hit the flower with your hammer to rescue Toad 10.

Head to the right of the deck and Pull Toad 11 out of the woodpile then hit hidden ? block it stands beside. Go to the rear of the wood pile and fix the last Not-Bottomless Hole 24. Use the fixed wood pile to jump reach the area that is hedged off so you can get the ? block there.

That’s about it for the Whispering Woods. While you haven’t gotten all the collectibles just yet, note that the remaining few are inside the cabin which is accessible at a later time in the game. Until that time all you can do is follow the path out of the area to the right into Toad Town.
