Playstation 4 Update 4.0 Releases Tomorrow

Sony’s upcoming Playstation 4 update 4.0, which was in beta testing a few months ago is set to release tomorrow. This update likely marks the last of the few major updates for the console, before focus shifts to the new PS4 Pro and virtual reality. Sony has detailed what Playstation owners can expect from the forth coming patch .

Releasing September 13th, the Playstation 4 update 4.0 features a few notable inclusions. Headlining the reveal is the ability to transfer data from one PS4 to another. This feature is largely being implemented in preparation for the PS4 Pro, as gamers who upgrade will have all their necessary data from the older PS4.

Another huge element of the update 4.0 is the shift towards higher resolution content, both for user consumption and production. On the production side, players will now be able to broadcast 1080 30/60 fps content to Youtube and 1080 30 fps to Twitch. For the consumption side, users will receive HDR support for every model of PS4 currently available. When the update hits, players will need to activate the HDR feature, which can be done under the new HDR settings in the Video Output Settings section. An important note for HDR is that the real benefit of this feature comes from actually having a HDR compatible display.
