Steam Sets New User Record
Steam, the Valve operated, PC/content delivery platform has set a new record for total number of users. The new record now stands at 18.5 million concurrent players.
The Steam stats page confirms this new record, showing a peak player base of 18.5 million users occurring on January 7th. This new Steam record breaks the previous record of 14 million which was set in 2017.
Steam users spend their time playing a number of games, but easily the most played game is PUBG at a peak of around 3 milllion concurrent players. PUBG is followed by DOTA 2 at 765 thousand; CS:GO at 630 thousand; and GTA V at 137 thousand.
All this growth on the Steam platform is an encouraging sign for PC gaming. Hopefully with such a large user base, developers and publishers will start focusing on PC content more aggressively in 2018.
