The Sleeping Canvases – Blasphemous Guide

Once you’ve made your way through the library, you will arrive in The Sleeping Canvases area. As the name suggests, this area is filled with paintings. To help you make your way through this area, use our The Sleeping Canvases guide below.

The Sleeping Canvases is a rather straightforward area, but it is kind of a pain to travel through. To help you find where you need to go, use the map above.

Room 1

In the first room make your way over the Prie Dieu and kneel before it. After you’ve knelt head to the right. Take out the enemies along the way (the wax looking enemies come back to life). Defeat the enemy guarding the door and head inside.

In this room you can go a number of directions. To start though drop down onto the ledge on the right side of the room to get the Quest Item: Sooty Garlic. From here ignore the bottom right room and make your way out the bottom left exit.

Candelaria

Head down the hallway past the enemies and swingin axes to reach the merchant Candelaria. At this shop she sells you the following items:

  • Wicker Knot (4000): Provides protection from Toxic damage.
  • Empty Bile Vessel (9000): More healing uses.
  • Key of the Inquisitor (9999): Master key.

I picked up the Key of the Inquisitor. Will keep you posted as to what it does. When you are ready, leave the shop and head to the left. Complete the difficult platforming in this room to reach the exit on the other side. Walk through the cave with the Blue Candle and head into the next room to open a shortcut to Mercy Dreams. Grab the Collectible: Kneecap of Sebastian, the Puppeteer. Head all the way back to Room 1.

Room 2

Use the right exit in Room 1 and head through the top right exit. Head down the hallway to the right. You will reach a large room with a number of platforms and swinging axes. Make your way up the platforms and go into the left exit. Here you will find a Prie Dieu. Rest at it then head out the room to the exit on the right. Boss time.

Boss: Exposito, Scion of Abjuration

This boss you may recognize from the game’s trailers. It is the baby. During the fight the baby appears in the background, but you will be spending the majority of your time fighting the snake-like creature that appears on the platform. It has the following attacks

  • Tail Attack: Thrusts tail up through the floor near where you are standing. There is an indicator circle that will appear around your character when this attack is about to occur. Dodge out of the way.
  • Poison Spin: Will circle you, dropping poison as it spins.
  • Fireballs: Shoots fireballs at you that bounce. Want to stand underneath the bounce to avoid damage.
  • Lunge: The head of the snake thing lunges at you.
  • Disc: Throws out discs similar to other enemies we’ve faced. These discs return to the boss.

If you stand still for too long during this fight the baby will grab you and rip you apart, killing you instantly. So keep that in mind. In terms of Rosary Beads, I would recommend stacking things that provide both fire and poison protection. Really all this fight comes down to is learning where to be positioned on each attack.

For beating Exposito, Scion of Abjuration you receive the Blind Innocence achievement and 8800 TOA. When ready leave the boss arena to the right. Hit the lever for the elevator. Equip your Relic: Three Gnarled Tongues and the Relic: Blood Perpetuated in Sand to reveal platforms leading up to a Children of Moonlight. Collect it then ride the elevator up to the Library of Negated Words.

Later: Painting Room

The panting room in Room 1 tells you what you need to do to complete the puzzle. Basically make sure the Blue Candle is out (by the shortcut back to Mercy Dreams) and the Red Candle is out (the one by the item you get after beating Exposito). Once you’ve done these things return to the room and use your Self-Cut ability. This opens a door to the right. In this room is the Sword Heart: Molten Heart of Boiling Blood.

In the room with the bull painting there is a secret room on the left side with a bunch of paintings in it. I had to do a downward attack to unlock it.

  2. Traveler says:

Anyone having issues with the blue candle not being lit? I can’t snuff it out but on the painting it shows as being lit.

  3. Nimbo says:

What about the area under the boss arena? Its blocked by a gate.

any word on what, if any, the reward for doing this is? I did it without really realizing what i was doing, but i don’t recall anything at all happening.

  5. Dahu says:

Press and hold the shoot projectile button, you’ll sacrifice some HP for fervour.

you didn’t include the large bull painting side quest ,,finding brothers (im stuck here) + side quest of the man near the altar (library of negated words) that says “for the love of high wills , make the sound cease”

    • Answers says:

for the sound one, you need the ghosts relic, and there’s a ghost in the library that’s against a wall, hitting it with a rock, and making the noise. interacting with it makes it disappear and completes the quest

  7. Mih says:

It’s the button for shooting projectiles (B-Button on XBox-Controller), just hold it longer and you get some fervour in exchange for some health.

  8. Kit says:

Question what is or where do you get Self-Cut? I’m almost 100% and have no idea what this is or where it comes from. Thanks
