My Top 10 Weapons in the Entire Dark Souls Series

5. Smough’s Hammer

Dark Souls

Game: Dark Souls

Description: Great hammer from the soul of executioner Smough, who guards the cathedral in the forsaken city of Anor Londo. Smough loved his work, and ground the bones of his victims into his own feed, ruining his hopes of being ranked with the Four Knights.”

Smough’s Hammer is my number five for two reasons. The first is just how insanely hard the Smough & Ornstein fight is. I can definitely concede that this was the hardest fight I ever experienced within the Soul’s series (until The Ringed City). Fighting different styles (O being fast, S being more slow but hard hitting) threw a whole different level of strategy into the game. The second reason I put the hammer at five, is the design. I love the over-sized nature of the weapon. Just the idea of wielding a hammer that probably weighs more then the character is epic.

4. Gravelord’s Sword

Dark Souls

Game: Dark Souls

Description: “Sword wielded only by servants of Gravelord Nito, the first of the dead. Crafted from the bones of the fallen. The miasma of death exudes from the sword, a veritable toxin to any living being.

I personally feel the Gravelord’s Sword is pretty Nito… Yeah, I went there. Anyways I love the sword design. From the hilt to the blade itself, the sword definitely embodies being a Gravelord Servant. Nothing says being the eternal servant of a gravelord quite like a sword made of bones.

3. Friede’s Great Scythe

Dark Souls 3: Top Ten Weapons

Friede’s Great Scythe

Game: Dark Souls 3

Description: ” A great scythe wielded by Sister Elfriede, with a curved blade thinly coated by Painted World frost that easily breaks the guard of shields. In the painting, the scythe is a symbol of a long-lost home, possibly explaining Elfriede’s preference for it.

I have never been much of a fan of Scythes in the Dark Souls series, but Friede’s Scythe changed that. When I first fought Friede I was blown away by the design of the weapon. From the cross slash to the jump attack, the weapon was interesting and different. Once I got my hands on the scythe I was blown away by the design as well as the Weapon Art. Friede’s Great Scythe is an amazing edition to the series and made me look at Scythes in a whole new light.

2.Fume Ultra Greatsword

Dark Souls 2 Weapons

I love the smell of bacon in the morning

Game: Dark Souls 2

Description: The Exile swordsman Raime had the ability to expunge the black fog, but chose to live alongside it, in company of the child of dark that haunts his sword. ”

Yes! Yet another greatsword. The KUG was my go to for the vanilla base game… Until the Crown of the Ivory King DLC came out. One of the most enjoyable fights I have ever experienced in the Souls series has to be Fume Knight.  Locked away in an icy tomb, the knight guards the Crown of the Ivory King.

What made the fight fun, was purely the level of difficulty. It took me multiple runs to finally fell the knight, but doing so was an incredible rush. In victory, I was rewarded with this sword. Looking like a piece of burnt bacon, I immediately decided I needed to run a dual wield build with this blade, so I quickly started a new game. I love everything about this weapon. The design, moves, faint red aura, backstory and on and on. This makes the FUG my second favorite weapon in the entire Dark Souls series.

1. Gael’s Greatsword

My Top 10 Weapons in the Entire Dark Souls Series

Game: Dark Souls 3

Description: ” Greatsword of Slave Knight Gael, the only weapon that he kept with him from beginning to end. Originally an executioner’s sword made for decapitation, this blade is heavily chipped and stained with the blood of countless battles.

It’s fitting that the last weapon you receive in the Dark Souls Series would be the top weapon on my list. Having defeated Gael in The Ringed City, I took the boss soul and transposed it into this beautiful weapon. The sword is interesting for a couple reason. First the Weapon Art is hands down the best of any weapon. The jump attack alone is incredible, but there is also a wicked dash as well. Second, the design of the weapon just strikes me as encompassing everything Dark Souls is about. The blade is worn and broken, but still manages to deal damage (like the players themselves). Gael’s Greatsword also shares a striking similarity to the Broken Straight Sword which is another interesting design choice. Overall, I just love this weapon and the fact it is the ‘last’ weapon you get in the series.

I’m a little disappointing that my favorite weapon didn’t make the cut.
